The Fall Guy (2024 Film) Review

I never watched The Fall Guy tv series in the 80s, but I was aware it existed. So I didn't have any expectations for the film and went in expecting nothing more than an entertaining flick. And the movie delivered and then some.

The Fall Guy is a 2024 action romantic comedy based on the 1980s tv series of the same name. It is rated PG-13 for language and is appropriate for most ages.

Analysis

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. These two were cast perfectly. They have such great chemistry and each play their parts perfectly.

Comedy. This movie is genuinely funny. I found myself laughing out loud several times. The filmmakers didn't waste time on the obvious, usual humor other movies rely on. There were truly hilarious moments and lines of dialogue.

Meta. This film is very meta. It opens with the star and director telling you it is a love letter to stuntmen, and then throughout the film analyses the film and film in general. It again was very insightful and not the usual, obvious fourth-wall breaking.

Stunts and Action. Every ten minutes the film goes into an elaborately staged action scene that is beautifully choreographed and so much fun. And each stunt is different so I never felt bored.

Recommendation

This movie is so good! It is pure entertainment, something I haven't seen in a long time. I highly recommend this film and give it 5 out of 5 boxes of popcorn.

Movie Review - Bill and Ted Face The Music

I enjoyed Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey in the 80s, but I was never a huge fan and thought they covered all the ground that needed to be covered. But I was curious to see where filmmakers would go with this three decades later.

Bill & Ted Face The Music is a 2020 science fantasy comedy based on Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure from the 80s. It's rated PG-13 for language and is appropriate for most ages.

The Good

Fun. This movie is a lot of fun and is true to its 80s roots.

The Bad

Absurd. This movie is pretty silly. None of the actions any of the characters make makes any sense.

Breaks the Rules. This movie breaks all the rules it sets for itself and throws any sort of logic and reason with time travel out the window.

Change of Premise. The original movie stated that Bill & Ted's music touches the whole world in such a way it brings about a new era of peace and harmony. This movie raises the stakes unnecessarily by saying they have to play a great song or all of existence ends.People in the future should have known this the first time.

What I Would Like to Have Seen

I wish the movie had make a little more sense.

Overall

Bill & Ted Face The Music is an absurd film that feels like a couple of fans sitting around saying, "Dude, do you know what would be awesome?" and then throwing out every crazy idea that comes to their heads. This story is absurd. None of the actions any of the characters make makes any sense. The original movie stated that Bill & Ted's music touches the whole world in such a way it brings about a new era of peace and harmony. This movie raises the stakes unnecessarily by saying they have to play a great song or all of existence ends.People in the future should have known this the first time. This is not a well made movie, but it is a fun conclusion to the 80s films for those who wax nostalgic. I give this film 3 out of 5 boxes of popcorn.

TV Show Review - Cobra Kai Season 1

I loved the original The Karate Kid movie, so I was both excited and horrified at the idea of a continuation. Excited because I wanted more Karate Kid action, horrified because of how poorly the remakes of it and other 80s properties had been handled.

Cobra Kai Season 1 is an 10-episode 2018 YouTube Originals series based on The Karate Kid film and continuing the story three decades later. It is rated TV-14 for language and is appropriate for tweens and up.

The Good

Story. This series has such a great story. It is perfectly paced and focuses on each character letting their story be told and their character be developed.

Action.
While there's not enough martial arts action, when there is karate, it is pretty exciting and a lot of fun.

Pacing. The story is paced just right. It never drags and is never rushed.

Contrast. This series does an excellent job of showing the contrast between 80s culture and 2018 culture and how far society as regressed and how weak and cruel modern youth have become. It is really fascinating from both a social perspective and an entertainment one.

The Bad

Romantic Development. Most of the movie is developed just right, but the relationship between Johnny's student and Daniel's daughter is rushed a little too much. A couple more episodes would have fixed that.

What I Would Like to Have Seen

More episodes!

Overall

Cobra Kai Season 1 is one of the best shows I've ever seen. It continues the story of The Karate Kid in a perfectly logical, relevant way being true to the original but brining in so many new elements that all fit. The pacing is perfect with each character given the appropriate amount of time to see his or her story progress and interact with the others. There is a lot of drama, conflict, and misunderstanding along with great action, comedy, and romance. And the subtext of the difference between 80s culture and 2018 culture and how far society has regressed in three decades is brilliant! I highly recommend this show and give it 5 out of 5 remotes.

Movie Review - Bumblebee

I was a big fan of Transformers in the 80s, and I've been waiting for a movie that was true to the original cartoon to be released. That day finally came.

Bumblebee is a 2018 science fiction action film based on the Transformers toyline and cartoon series. It is rated PG-13 for mild violence and is appropriate for most ages.

The Good

Transformers Designs. The filmmakers did an excellent job capturing the look of the original toys. I almost cried I was so happy. Why couldn't they have done this 4 films earlier? They looked awesome!

Transformers Action. The film did a great job capturing the movement, transformation, and action of the cartoon. I loved classic Soundwave and Ravage! And Optimus Prime as a semi looked just like the toy.

80s Nostalgia. This movie takes place in the 80s with a lot of 80s music, fashion, film, and other references. Even the pacing and story turns felt very 80s.

Opening Scene. The opening scene looks like it came straight from my imagination. It was everything I could want in a Transformer movie.

The Bad

Charlie. Charlie is the main character, and she is so blah and unlikeable. The main story is her coping with the loss of her dad and trying to move on. The idea was good, but so poorly executed.

Story. The story was weak. It was boring, uninteresting, and uninspired. I wished I had a remote to cue to the next battle scene.

What I Would Like to Have Seen

I wish there had been more Transformer action. The main story was pretty dull and bland. The action scenes on Cybertron were amazing.

Overall

Bumblebee is the Transformer movie fans have been waiting for for three decades. The Transformer designs and action look like they came straight out of the cartoon. Why couldn't the first four movies look like this? The opening scene looks like it came straight from my imagination. Unfortunately, the story and human characters were boring. I give this film 3.5 out of 5 boxes of popcorn.
